Il colore Bruno

2017
Archaeology, digital technologies and contemporary art come together in a perfect union in the exhibition of Bruno Di Bello, on display at the National Archaeological Museum of Naples. Completing the project is a short film by Roberto Paci Dalò, winner of the 2015 Premio Napoli, which is on view for the entire duration of the exhibition alongside Di Bello’s works.

With the help of the international PANTONE colour chart, Di Bello precisely identified the colours used by the Pompeian artists who created the frescoes preserved in the Museum, in order to compose the palette with which he then produced three large digital-geometric polyptychs – each six metres long – displayed on the three walls of the Hall of the Starry Sky. The ancient colours of the frescoes housed within the spaces of the Archaeological Museum serve merely as the starting point for a project based entirely on the use of digital technologies. “I am convinced that we will only be able to find a truly avant-garde language through a skilled and knowledgeable use of digital technologies,” stated Di Bello in 2000 when, after more than a decade of research focused on the study and exploration of digital photography and information and telecommunication systems, he inaugurated a new phase centred on the image created through digital technology.
