Ombre

Ombre della Galleria Nazionale dell’Umbria a Perugia. A few months of exploration among the works of Duccio, Piero, Perugino, Pinturicchio and many others. An adventure written and drawn traveling in detail (thinking back to Daniel Arasse’s lesson) to cross the space and times of the Gallery and its unique collection in Italy; a narration that sometimes intertwines with the life of the city, thus making people like Aldo Capitini and Gerardo Dottori appear. A meditation made with poor materials (paper, ink, pencil, watercolour) and reproduced in anastatic form from the author’s original notebook.

“Ombre”, the first artist’s book inspired by the precious heritage kept in the National Gallery of Umbria, sees the light for Quodlibet editions. “Ombre” reproduces the author’s original notebook in anastatic fashion, made with poor materials (paper, ink, pencil, watercolor) during a few months of exploration among the works of Duccio, Piero, Perugino, Pinturicchio and many others. The book is a written and drawn adventure travelling in detail to cross the space and times of the Gallery and its unique collection in Italy; a narration that sometimes intertwines with the life of the city, thus making people like Aldo Capitini and Gerardo Dottori appear. The project was born in the wake of the celebrations for the centenary of the Gallery (1918-2018): “A museum born in wartime”.
