The project is indebted to an inspiration by the semiologist Paolo Fabbri and to his book “Under the Sign of Federico Fellini”, published by Luca Sossella Editore. Then there is Collodi’s Pinocchio, in the reading of that masterpiece which is “Fellini’s Casanova”: from these materials and evocations, Casanova / Pinocchio comes into being.
One scene in particular, the one that moved Roland Barthes, the dance with the automaton at the end is exemplary: «An extraordinary transformation that preserves, subject to certain inversions, the pinocchian mythicism». The project Casanova / Pinocchio was premiered, using previously unpublished materials, by Paci Dalò together with Roberto Lucanero in 2019 on the occasion of the Festival de Cine Italiano de Madrid, curated by Laura Pugno and produced by the Italian Cultural Institute of Madrid.
