Smallville #2

2011
A 1940s valve radio becomes a model: a miniature city populated by tiny figures who live among circuits, valves and metal structures. Their ‘voices’ create the sound, and it is precisely the sound that sweetens the city, almost as if evoking a scene from Fritz Lang’s film Metropolis.

The radio is active and therefore receives short waves on unstable and fluctuating frequencies. A work created for ArteFiera 2011 and exhibited in the artist’s solo shows at Galerie Mario Mazzoli in Berlin and in the retrospective at Marsèlleria in Milan.
