Plurifonie. A programme by Roberto Paci Dalò dedicated to the history of the voice and vocal expression, with a focus on innovative and experimental ways of using the voice.
The programme explores the history of the voice and vocal expression — from its earliest roots in traditional forms of vocal expression to its use in more modern and experimental practices, with particular attention to the ritual value of the voice. It takes the listener on a journey through various cultures that have used the voice to create unique and powerful sonic experiences, and examines how technology has enabled us to explore the possibilities of vocal expression in new and innovative ways. The programme delves into the stories behind some of the most intriguing vocal performances, exploring how the voice can be used beyond its textual dimension. “In vocal writing, poetry is the voice. The text is its echo.” (Carmelo Bene)
Plurifonie is a term coined by feminist philosopher Adriana Cavarero, one of the most attentive scholars of Hannah Arendt and President of the Hannah Arendt Center for Political Studies – University of Verona.
“Through my work, my androgynous nature clearly emerges. I have two voices: one male and one female, and I use them both – separately and simultaneously.” (Demetrio Stratos)
